Positivity Life is dedicated to helping YOU achieve your optimal health, happiness and personal potential through the 5 positivity pathways (heart, mind, body, spirit, relationships and life strategies). How fortunate we are to live in a day when the results of scientific studies are made readily available to help people optimize their health and wellness and to flourish, in all 5 pathways.

Today’s post focuses on optimal health through proper nutrition. This is a sensitive subject for many because it’s often considered to be a highly personal thing. Our lifestyles often revolve around the food we eat. We all have our preferred comfort foods and we can even become quite defensive of our preferred way of eating (regardless of whether or not it provides true nutritional value). Despite the way we feel about food, our overall health and wellbeing depends upon our taking wholesome and nutritious fuel into our bodies.

We like to use the car analogy. Imagine if someone had just spent their hard-earned money on the car of their dreams. Would they not take the utmost care of that prized vehicle? Wouldn’t the fuel they put into that car be of the highest quality? Certainly, in order to keep their most valued mode of transportation working at its optimal and peak performance level, they would never consider filling their gas tank with mud or soda pop or anything other than the most highly recommended fuel.

Likewise, our bodies are a valued gift! They are our mode of transportation through this life’s journey and their optimal functioning plays a key role in our life’s success and enjoyment. In order to take the best possible care of our most prized vehicles, it’s important to learn about nutrition with an open mind and heart and be willing to make the dietary changes that will increase physical health and overall wellbeing. Our bodies are too valuable to take for granted. If big dietary changes seem overwhelming, set small goals and be consistent. Even baby steps in the right direction can provide big results.

There’s a new documentary, called, “Eating You Alive,” being released in 2016. It features several medical doctors who discuss the benefits of a whole foods, plant-based diet and the positive and life-saving effects it can have on our bodies. Here are just a few of the insightful statements from the documentary:

Michael Hollie, M.D., “I believe our body was made a certain way, to run on a certain fuel and we have been putting the wrong fuel in our body.”

Neal Barnard, M.D., “Health is not a matter of chance and it’s not a matter of your destiny being written on your genes…Foods are the cause of diabetes, of heart disease, of many forms of cancer, of hypertension and if they’re the cause, they can also be the solution. That’s been a totally new idea for most people but it’s a very powerful one. Vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans; those foods have power that you never imagined. It’s time to put it to work.”

Ted Crawford, D.O. – “The most important decision anyone makes every day is what they elect to put into their mouths.”

For the sake of your optimal health, we invite you to take the Positivity Life physical wellness challenge! Here it is: This year, instead of making a New Year’s weight loss resolution, consider making a New Year’s wellness resolution. If you’re eating right and focusing on plant-based whole foods for optimal nutrition, the weight loss can happen naturally. Be sure to base your nutritional strategy and meal planning on scientifically proven nutrition facts. At the end of this post, please find a list of great whole foods, plant-based nutrition resources, from medical doctors, and links to their websites.

At this season of giving, and receiving, we can be grateful for one of our most valuable gifts – our bodies. We can show our gratitude by nurturing our bodies and by remembering that the fuel we put into them is key to our ultimate health and wellness; not just for today but throughout our entire lives. For New Years, give yourself the gift of health, through proper, wholesome nutrition. You and your body are worth it! After all, a valued vehicle deserves the highest quality fuel!
